ABOUT DR. CARMEN APRIL-WASHINGTON

          Dr. Carmen April-Washington is a Podiatrist, specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of foot and ankle disorders. She is a business savvy professional who started a medical practice, The Foot And Ankle Healthcare Center, from scratch almost 13 years ago and grew the patient base from 0 to over 1,000 new patients in her first 2 years in this practice.

         She medically and surgically treats a wide array of foot and ankle injuries and conditions including, but not limited to, ankle sprains, fractures, ingrown toenails, toenail fungus, and tendonitis. A large portion of her practice is dedicated to treating diabetic patients and the life-threatening foot complications often associated with this disease. She has served as a medical consultant for a leading national Electronic Health Records System and has published articles in medical specialty journals and publications.

          Dr. Carmen is currently the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging for the Junior League of Nashville. She has been recognized as a 2021 Outstanding Active of the Year Paragon Award Recipient from the Junior League of Nashville – an annual award presented to the Junior League member who best exemplifies the purpose of JLN and is committed to promoting volunteerism and improving the community through effective action & leadership of trained volunteers.

She is a Nashville Business Journal 2020 Women of Influence Award Recipient, Nashville Emerging Leader (NELA) Award Winner, a Nashville Business Journal Top 40 Under Forty Award Recipient, is a Graduate of Young Leaders Council (YLC) Leadership Institute,  the New Leaders Council Institute – Nashville Chapter, and is a 2018 Nashville Power Moves Award Winner. She has also been a Nashville Athena Award Young Professional Nominee. She received the “Exceeding Expectations Award for Exceptional Service” during her Provisional year with the Junior League of Nashville and continues to be active in this organization.

          She has been featured in print and radio media, speaking on Foot & Ankle Health topics, Leadership, entrepreneurship, blogging and personal branding. She participates in community health fairs, health promotion events and has served on the medical team for numerous races and marathons including the Boston Marathon, Marine Corps Marathon, Detroit Marathon and the Music City Marathon.

          She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.- Kappa Lambda Omega chapter in Nashville, TN and actively serves on numerous committees and initiatives within this chapter. She previously served as Photographer and Social Media Manager for the South Eastern Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc

     Dr. Carmen is a former member of the The Nashville Junior Chamber where she served as the 2013 Gala Chairman, received the 2012-2013 Membership Spotlight Award as well as the Sherry Glover Community Service Award. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Moves & Grooves – a Nashville nonprofit providing arts and dance education for Nashville youth, and has served on the Board of Directors of The Breakfast Club of Nashville (BCON), The Interdenominational Service Organization of America (ISOA) and on the Jr. Board of Directors of Women in Numbers (WIN). She is a Professional Advisor for budding entrepreneurs at the Nashville Entrepreneur Center and a Professional Mentor for college students through Persist Nashville.

         In 2012 she also created a food and lifestyle blog, Dinner With Nerds, that featured everything from her favorite restaurants to people and events that have inspired her. This unique title caught the attention of the Nashville Business Journal who featured her story in their publication. She’s even appeared in episodes of “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives” on the Food Network and “Eat Street” on The Cooking Channel, giving her commentary on popular food trucks in Nashville! Her food photography has been shared on the websites and social media pages of renowned local and national restaurants. Even though she no longer runs the blog, she updates her restaurant finds on her Instagram page which can be found at @DinnerWithDrCarmen . To date, Dr April has dined at over 435 Nashville Restaurants/Eateries and counting!!!

          She enjoys motivating and inspiring others to design their lives with intention and does this through Keynote addresses, motivational workshops and presentations. She strives diligently everyday to Uplift, Encourage and Inspire! She’s presented motivating Keynote addresses from Tennessee and Mississippi all the way to Massachusetts and New York.

           Dr. Carmen is married to Mr. Lionel Washington, and together they love traveling (Mexico, The Caribbean & South America are their favorite destinations), experiencing the great restaurants Nashville has to offer, and cheering on their Mississippi State University Bulldogs (they are both proud Alumni!!!).
